Remote Medical International® is excited to announce a new partnership with the Yosemite Unified School District (YUSD) to offer our Wilderness EMT courses right outside of Yosemite National Park in Oakhurst, California. We have a long history of successful WEMT courses here in Washington State, and expanding our offerings to the Yosemite area is a very logical step for us.
Here in Washington we are highly selective about our course locations, looking for the best locations both educationally and in regards to recreational opportunities for students traveling to the area. We are continuing that tradition in California with our partnership with YUSD and using Calvin Crest Conference Center as the course facility. Calvin Crest, located at 5000 feet in the Sierra Nevada’s, owns 340 acres of forested land surrounded by Sierra National Forest, providing the perfect classroom for wilderness medicine training. When not in class, students can explore the grove of giant sequoias on site, access nearby climbing, as well as tons of other recreational opportunities that the Yosemite area offers. If you’ve never been to this area, check out Yosemite This Year.
Oakhurst is easily accessed through the Fresno airport (we run a shuttle from here for out of town students) and is less than a 4-hour drive from the Bay Area, making the course extremely accessible no matter where you’re coming from. On top of that, our partnership with YUSD provides students with unparalleled access to clinical rotations during the course. Every EMT student in the country has to complete some sort of clinical rotation, and we think this is one of the best. Students will work a shift at Community Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Department in Fresno. As a major teaching hospital for UCSF, Remote Medical WEMT students will get hands-on patient care time at one of the busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers in the country. Students also will complete an ambulance ride-a-long during the course, rounding out the incredible clinical portion of the course that very few training organizations can provide. Our first course is in July, and several are already scheduled for 2012 and early 2013. Check out the full list and get more information.
